How To Rid Bad Breath

Bad breath is a big problem for many people. It’s one of the most common reasons that people go to the dentist. It can be caused by several things including gum disease and nose bacteria. Tonsil stones can also cause recurrent halitosis, which is very hard to get rid of. However, the most common reason that people have bad breath is that their mouth is harboring odor causing bacteria or germs.
People wondering how to rid bad breath have many options to consider. It is difficult to cure bad breath (also known as halitosis) since the food people eat every day can restart the growth of bacteria that cause breath to smell bad. However, regular teeth brushing can help eliminate bad breath. Brushing your teeth after every meal, upon waking up, and before going to bed can get rid of food remnants that build up in the mouth and cause bad breath. When brushing your teeth, it's important to wash the tongue thoroughly as well. The tongue is often a catch-all for odor, food and bacteria. Follow up with flossing which eliminates the bits of food that get caught between teeth and allow halitosis causing bacteria to grow.

There are also special types of mouthwash that are made to eliminate halitosis. Mouthwash typically contains a small amount of alcohol, which kills bacteria and germs. It is usually taken twice a day. After waking up, bad breath is usually at its worst. During the night, there is not much air that circulates in the mouth to keep it fresh and to whisk out odors. Using mouthwash in the morning gets rid of morning breath. It is then also used before bed at night - this slows the overnight growth of bacteria.

Changing your food diet is another way to treat bad breath. Certain foods, like cheese, onion and garlic often cause bad breath. Unfortunately, eating these foods regularly can also cause body odor. To minimize the occurrence of bad breath, limit how much of these items you eat. Eggs, fish, and broccoli should also be avoided.

By following these tips, people with bad breath can learn how to get clean, fresh-smelling breath. But remember that if bad breath persists, it's best to consult a dentist, doctor or qualified physician and obtain professional advice.
